How can I restore a SQL 6.5 database backup to a SQL 7.0/2000 server?

Thanks,
Pedro Rodrigues
pedro@.markdata.ptYou can't. You need to get it into a 6.5 SQL Server and then use the Upgrade
Wizard that comes with 7.0 (and 2000) to get the data over to 7.0/2000.

In case you just have the backup somewhere safe / available after you have done / faced with 1) and/or 2), you can just restore the database from the .bak file.

How Can I reduce my transacion log file?

I Have a Database with a transaction log file 31 Gb, and I have problem to
backup it.
I want decresea it but don't remember How.
LorenaHi,
It seems you have set recovery model for this database to FULL. In this
recovery model all the activity inside the
database is logged. So you have schedule a transaction log backup to clear
of the trasnaction logs. THis backup can
be used when a recovery is needed.
Show to set to simple
ALTER database <dbname> set recovery SIMPLE
How to clear the existing logs and shrink the file:-
Since the file is really huge, I recomment you to set the database to single
user model before doing the below steps.
-- Setting database single user.
Alter database <dbname> set single_user with rollback immediate
-- Truncate the transaction log
BACKUP log <dbname> with truncate_only
-- shrink the transacton log file
DBCC SHRINKFILE('logical_ldf_name',truncateon
ly)
After doing the above steps execute the below command to see the transaction
log size and usage.
DBCC SQLPERF(LOGSPACE)
-- Now set the database multi user
Alter database <dbname> set multi_user
Thanks

How can I move/import .MDF file to another machine ?

Our SQL Server machine just crashed, but I can get to the .MDF file (not a
backup file). If I have the .MDF file of a SQL Server database, can I import
this file to another SQL Server and look at it at the new machine ?
Thanks. If the SQL Server crashed in a weird state, you MIGHT be able to recover the
file.
Copy the MDF and LDF files to the other machine, and try attaching them.
(Look at sp_attach_db in Books Online).
If that fails, you can try just the MDF file, using sp_attach_single_file_db
(also documented in books online).
If that also fails, then you might have just learned the value of backups.
Better late than never. :-)

I do not have the LDF file, and when I tried sp_attach_single_file_db
I got an error saying something like the MDF file does not have the right
format, or something like that.
I already recommend them to backup next time.
Thank you for your help.

I believe you could use the SMO Scripter class to achieve this.
If your schema is in development I'd recommend you use a source control
program to backup the source code. Or you can use utilities like DBGhost or
RedGate SQL Compare to script the changes.

How can I get the log sequence number on C#?

Hi! I would like to get the log sequence number from the database backup so
that I can let the users select the restored time. Can I do this with the
SMO?
Thanks! One way would be to use methods such as the Database.ExecuteWithResults method to execute your
RESTORE HEADERONLY command and loop the result (DataTable in the DataSet) from that method.
Or, you should be able to use BackupDevice.ReadBackupHeader method and read the returned DataTable.
